Gluten-Free Affogato with a Hot Espresso
A scoop of cold vanilla gelato drowned in a shot of hot espresso. Done in under five minutes. Use products labeled gluten-free and check labels.
Cakes, cookies, brownies, pies, and fall holiday desserts made without gluten.
Updated October 7, 2026. Fall desserts stay gluten-free when the crust is a labeled gluten-free blend or almond flour, the pumpkin can is plain purée, and any oat streusel uses oats labeled gluten-free. Fruit pies thicken with cornstarch, tapioca, or arrowroot, not wheat flour. A graham-style or refrigerated crust is wheat unless that box says gluten-free. Caramel apples for Halloween stay on their own tray, away from cookie crumbs. Personal celiac decisions, including oats and avenin, belong with a clinician.
Updated 2026-10-07. Pumpkin, apple, pecan, pear, and spice bakes for a gluten-free fall table, plus caramel apples for a Halloween tray. Read the method in gluten-free pumpkin desserts, gluten-free pie crust, gluten-free pastry tips, Halloween treats for 2026, and the Thanksgiving menu. Fruit-pie thickeners are compared in cornstarch vs tapioca vs arrowroot.

Refrigerated dough, a graham-style crust, and a cookie-crumb shell are wheat unless that package says gluten-free. Plain pumpkin purée in the filling does not change the crust. Roll your own from a labeled gluten-free blend when the box does not make the claim.
Cornstarch, tapioca starch, or arrowroot, stirred in as a slurry. Tapioca stays clearer in a juicy apple or berry filling and holds up better if the pie is frozen. Buy a bag that says gluten-free. Wheat flour is the thickener this pie does not use.
The apple and a plain sugar caramel are gluten-free. Cookie crumbs, pretzel pieces, and a shared dipping pot are not. Read the candy bag, and give the gluten-free apples their own tray and sticks so a wheat crumb does not land on them.
Single spices are usually just that spice. A blend can hide an extra ingredient, so read the jar. Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and clove bought separately are the simpler path. A new jar still gets a look even when last year's jar was fine.
Only when those oats are labeled gluten-free. Ordinary oats are often handled near gluten-containing grains, and rinsing does not fix that. If someone cannot eat oats, leave the streusel off their portion and take avenin questions to a clinician. Pie or plain fruit is the other dessert.
Almond flour is naturally gluten-free. Buy a bag labeled gluten-free so shared grinding equipment is not a surprise. These desserts are built on almond flour or a gluten-free blend.
